Self Portrait

A self portrait completed on an A0 canvas in oil paint, with the composition inspired by Rembrandts portraits.

After a trip to the national gallery, I became interested in faces and portraiture, and began experimenting with different styles and tones.

I attempted a copy and a self portrait from my own images in his style, before attempting one from observation with a mirror, focusing primarily on breaking the composition into colours.

I did large amounts of research into Rembrandt and his very unique style and uncanny ability to capture peoples likeness and emotions in his paintings.
